The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Sri Lankan Cricket (SLC) today announced the revised schedule of India’s limited-overs tour of Sri Lanka. As per the revised schedule, the 3 match ODI series will begin from July 18, instead of July 13. It is then followed by a T20 series.

BCCI said in a statement “The decision to revise the itinerary was taken based on health advisory after the Sri Lankan contingent detected two COVID positive cases. The tour comprising 3 ODI and as many T20 will now start from July 18th,2021”.

Here are the revised dates of the ODI series between India and Sri Lanka first ODI on July 18. The second and third ODI will be played on July 20 and July 23 respectively. The revised dates of the T 20 series between India and Sri Lanka first T20 on July 25. The second and third T20 will be played on July 27 and July 29 respectively. All the matches of the ODI series, as well as the T20 series, will be held in the same venue at Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah “We understand that circumstances are extraordinary, but BCCI would like to extend its full support to Sri Lankan Cricket (SLC) during these tough times for the smooth conduct of the upcoming series. Our medical team is in constant touch with the team of doctors at SLC and together following all safety protocols that will help the series to get underway. We are confident that both nations will put up a spirited show in the days to come and we are in for some exciting cricket “.

“We are grateful to the BCCI for understanding the situation and agreeing to cooperate with us at this moment, as it has done on numerous occasions during our long-standing relationship”, said Mr. Ashley de Silva the CEO of SLC.

The batting coach of Sri Lanka and who is also a former opener for Zimbabwe Grant Flower was the first to test COVID positive in the Sri Lankan camp. The next one was Sri Lankan data analyst GT Niroshan to test COVID positive. So, this pushed BCCI and SLC to take a decision.

Rumors were going Sri Lanka might go to an alternate squad that has isolating Dambulla, for the series to start on schedule. Since one of the cricketers even in an alternate squad tested positive pushed them to reschedule the limited-overs series against India.
