BCCI Prepares Vaibhav Suryavanshi To Carry Virat Kohli’s Batting Legacy Forward

Young Indian batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi is all set to get personalized training at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru after his standout performances in England. The talented left-hander is looking to fine-tune his skills ahead of India’s upcoming tour of Australia in September and October.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi made headlines earlier this year when he became the youngest-ever IPL centurion during the 2025 season. His big break came when Sanju Samson’s injury opened a spot in the playing XI, and the Rajasthan Royals’ decision to ease him into top-level cricket quickly proved unnecessary – he grabbed his chance in style.

BCCI Invests in Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s Growth

The 14-year-old impressed not only in the IPL but also in India’s U-19 and domestic one-day matches. According to MyKhel, Vaibhav Suryavanshi had a special training session with the Royals soon after returning from England.

On August 10, he kicked off a personalized program at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), focusing on technical drills and match-specific practice to sharpen his game for future challenges.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s childhood coach, Manish Ojha, who has tracked his progress closely, says the aim isn’t just short-term preparation for Australia but also building a foundation for a long professional career.

“BCCI is looking ahead. The senior players are gradually retiring, and to fill that vacuum, the next batch of youngsters must be fully ready. This training for Vaibhav is part of that process. We pick boys one by one and prepare them accordingly for the demands of international cricket,” Ojha explained.

A Record-Breaking Young Talent

During India’s Under-19 tour of England, Vaibhav Suryavanshi scored 355 runs in just five Youth ODIs, averaging an impressive 71. He also smashed the fastest century in Youth ODIs, reaching the milestone in just 52 balls during a game in Worcester.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi will spend a week training in Bengaluru before joining his teammates for joint practice ahead of the Australia tour.

Room for Growth in Longer Formats

While Ojha praised Vaibhav’s explosive style in white-ball cricket, he also pointed out an area for improvement.

“He has the ability to attack from the very first ball, which is a huge positive in T20s and one-dayers. You’ve seen it in the IPL, U-19, and Vijay Hazare. But in longer formats, the performance level drops compared to white-ball cricket. The goal is to bring that consistency up. If he plays 10 innings, 7-8 should be impactful,” he added.

Making Waves in the IPL

Rajasthan Royals picked up Vaibhav Suryavanshi for ₹1.1 crore ahead of IPL 2025, and he immediately lived up to the hype. His fearless batting included a blistering 38-ball century against the Gujarat Titans. In seven matches, he racked up 252 runs at a strike rate of 206.55, earning the Super Striker of the Season award.
