Bernardo Silva and De Bruyne scores as Man City beat Burnley 2-0

Bernardo Silva and Kevin De Bruyne were on target for Pep Guardiola’s side as the defending champions overcome a sturdy Burnley.

Manchester City as usual dominated the ball against Burnley who themselves usually sit in a deep block.

In the 12th minute, England star Phil Foden took a shot from outside the box as he got sight of the goal. Nick Pope managed to save Foden’s effort. However, the ball fell very kindly for Bernardo Silva near the goal and the Portuguese international gobbled up the chance to give City the lead.

It was Bernardo Silva’s second Premier League goal of the campaign. Bernardo Silva was close to leaving Manchester City in the summer with Barcelona linked closely with the midfielder. However, the Portuguese international seems to have regained its importance for the blue side of Manchester.

Ten minutes later, Dwight McNeil carved open the City defense with a magnificent pass to release Cornet in behind. However, the Ivorian messed up the 1v1 chance for Burnley with Jack Steffen standing tall to save the first effort. The striker’s second effort off the rebound out of Steffen flew over the crossbar.

Brownhill could have equalized for the clarets in the 35th minute but his shot dragged wide off the post by just.

Meanwhile, Manchester City could have taken the lead themselves but Sterling and Mahrez’s efforts did not make the cut.

De Bruyne doubles the lead

In the 70th minute of the game, De Bruyne fired home the second goal giving them a two-goal cushion. The Belgian took advantage of fumbling inside Burnley’s penalty area and took a powerful shot at the far post of the goal to score his side’s second.

Meanwhile, Chris Wood missed a guilt edge chance in the 79th minute to pull one back for his side. Burnley is currently sitting 19th in the table with 3 draws and suffering 5 losses in the campaign. Manchester City tail Liverpool and table leaders Chelsea with 17 points.

Liverpool and Chelsea themselves won their own respective matches on the weekend.
