Biathlon World Cup 2024-25: Top Contenders In Hochfilzen

The Biathlon World Cup actions on the Austrian ice will take place from 13-15 December. Events including sprints, pursuits and relays will enchant the fans.

The Biathlon World Cup moves to the snow-capped mountains of Hochfilzen, Austria, this weekend, for the second stop of the 2024-2025 season.

Hochfilzen has hosted three world championships in the past and will also welcome athletes in 2028. 

The actions on the Austrian ice will take place from 13-15 December. Events including sprints, pursuits and relays will enchant the fans.

Biathlon World Cup 2024-25: Top Contenders In Hochfilzen

Sweden’s Elvira Oeberg, the Olympic champion and yellow bib holder, will enter the championship after a commanding start. New comer Sara Andersson, the blue bib holder will be another player to watch out for.

France’s Eric Perrot yellow bib holder has emerged as a top contender in the men’s field. He will enter the competition on the back of multiple victories, including a relay triumph. Norway’s Olympic champion Sturla Holm Laegreid, who sits just one point behind in the standings, is the challenger to him.

Five-time Olympic Biathlon champion Johannes Thingnes Boe is another athlete to keep an eye on.

Meanwhile, Norway’s rising stars, Martin Uldal and Marit Oeygard, make for a strong team. Uldal makes his World Cup debut after a stellar IBU Cup campaign, while Oeygard, stepping in for Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold, will hope to display a breakout performance.

Finland’s two-time Olympian Suvi Minkkinen will shoulder the responsibility of her team with experience and composure, while Tuomas Harjula, fresh from the IBU Cup, joins forces with Tero Seppälä and Olli Hiidensalo in the men’s relay lineup.
