Big Bash League Records and Statistics: Highest Runs Chase in the Tournament

The Big Bash League has always managed to amaze its fans with astounding and innumerable performances. And chasing runs in any T20 cricket matches have been any team’s preferred option. Over the years, the championship has witnessed teams chasing the maximum runs to their names. One among those teams is Hobart Hurricanes. With an incredible batting squad, the team has successfully set a record of highest chased runs in four seasons. Here’s a mention of some of the three seasons: 

  • Hobart Hurricanes (223/8) against Melbourne Renegades in BBL 2017

The match between Hobart Hurricanes and Melbourne Renegades witnessed more than 440 runs in around 40 overs. As a result, both the second and third highest Big Bash League totals came in this match. According to reports, Hobart Hurricanes successfully won the toss and put Melbourne Renegades to bat first. And Melbourne Renegades managed to make an excellent score of 222/4 in their 20 overs. Also, Skipper Aaron Finch made 63 off 40, and Tom Cooper played a quick cameo of 53* off 24 balls.

On the other hand, Hobart Hurricanes made a poor start in the initial overs, but Ben McDermott as well as George Bailey successfully added 151 runs for the third wicket to let their team reach close to the total. Moreover, Bailey made 59 off 42, whereas McDermott scored a brilliant century. Toward the end, Hobart chased down the target off the very last ball and successfully scored 223/8. 

  • Hobart Hurricanes (210/7) against Brisbane Heat in 2013

The next highest chase for team Hobart Hurricanes came in the Big Bash League (season 2013). However, it was a match between Hobart Hurricanes and Brisbane Heat, where team Brisbane Heat successfully won the toss. Upon winning the toss, they opted for batting first, and managed to register a big total of 209/3 in their first innings.

In response, team Hobart Hurricanes were given 50-run partnerships for the first two wickets, which put them ahead in the game. Their team members, Ben Dunk made 69 out of 33 deliveries with the help of five fours and four sixes. And Jonathan Wells remained unbeaten on 36* off 20 to complete the match. As a result, Hobart Hurricanes made 210/7 in 19.2 overs to register the second highest BBL chase. 

The third highest chase are as well registered under the name of team Hobart Hurricanes. As per reports, it was a match between Hobart Hurricanes and Brisbane Heat in the 2015 season of Big Bash League. While batting first, team Brisbane Heat successfully scored 208/6 in their 20 overs. But, with exceptional performance from their batting unit team Hobart Hurricanes managed to secure the third highest chase of 209/4 in 19 overs.
