These big players withdrew from the Charleston Open 2025
The main draw of the Charleston Open 2025 will start from March 31. This time Jessica Pegula is the top seeded player, while Madison Keys and Qinwen Zheng are behind her. Danielle Collins won the women’s singles title last year and this time she is the seventh seeded player.
However, some famous players will not be a part of this year’s competition, whose absence is due to either injuries or physical fatigue. Let’s see the list of big names who have pulled out of the Charleston Open 2025:
Magdalena Frech

Magdalena Frech will not participate in the Charleston Open 2025 this time. This Polish tennis player, ranked 30th in the WTA rankings, participated in the Miami Open, but lost to Elena-Gabriela Ruse in the second round. Earlier, her journey in the Indian Wells Open also ended against Lucia Bronzetti. In her place, Japan’s Kyoka Okamura has been included in the main draw of the Charleston Open.
Lulu Sun

Lulu Sun, who caught everyone’s attention with her stellar performance at Wimbledon last year, will also not be a part of the WTA 500 competition this time. After reaching the quarterfinals at the 2024 Wimbledon Championship, her journey ended as a runner-up at the Monterrey Open. But since then her winning streak has decreased. After registering two wins at Indian Wells, she was defeated by Qinwen Zheng in the Round of 32. She was also defeated by Mayar Sherif in the first round of the Miami Open.
Renata Zarazua

Mexico’s Renata Zarazua will also not participate in the Charleston Open 2025. She faced American Ashlyn Krueger in the first round of the Miami Open, in which Zarazua lost 6-3, 6-2. This year she has played a total of 18 matches, winning 7 and losing 11. Australian Ajla Tomljanovic will play in the main draw in place of Zarazua.
Magda Linette

Poland’s famous tennis player Magda Linette will also not play in the Charleston Open 2025. She had reached the quarterfinals in the Miami Open, in which she defeated strong players like Coco Gauff, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, Linda Fruhvirtova and Ekaterina Alexandrova. But her journey ended here against Jasmine Paolini.
Linette is resting not due to any injury but for the upcoming Billie Jean King Cup qualifying matches of Poland. Britain’s Harriet Dart will play in the Charleston Open in her place.
Paula Badosa

Former world number 2 Spanish tennis star Paula Badosa will also not participate in the Charleston Open 2025. Her back injuries have not left her for the last few years. Badosa, who reached the semi-finals of the 2025 Australian Open, lost to Aryna Sabalenka there.
She also withdrew from the Indian Wells Masters. She withdrew before the match against Alexandra Eala in the Round of 16 at the Miami Open. Now she will be absent from the Charleston Open as well. She is expected to recover soon and return to the court again. Russian tennis player Anna Blinkova will play in the main draw in place of Badosa.
These were some of the big names who will not be a part of the Charleston Open 2025. It will be interesting to see which new players are able to take advantage of this opportunity.
