The Billie Jean King Cup 2025 Asia-Oceana Group I ties is set to get underway in Pune from April 7. Matches will be played at the Deccan Gymkhana. 

India has announced its five-member squad for the tournament. Asian Games bronze medallist Ankita Raina will headline a five-member Indian tennis team at the Billie Jean King Cup 2025 Asia-Oceania

Raina is currently the top-ranked Indian women’s singles tennis player at world No. 292.

The Indian tennis team also includes Sahaja Yamalapalli (rank 301), Shrivalli Bhamidipaty (rank 313), Vaidehi Chaudhari (rank 405) and Prarthana Thombare, the top-ranked Indian tennis player in doubles at world No. 136.

The team was selected on the basis of the player’s recent performances and their availability by the All India Tennis Association (AITA) and Professional Selection Committee on March 1, 2025. 

Teen sensation Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi has been named as the reserve player.

Vishal Uppal will serve as the captain of the squad while Radhika Kanitkar has been named as the coach.

Rutuja Bhosale, who won the Asian Games 2023 mixed doubles title with Rohan Bopanna, is missing from the squad. However, Bhosale and Vaishnavi Adkar will join India’s training camp from April 2.

The Billie Jean King Cup, formerly known as the Fed Cup, is one of the most prestigious multilateral women’s tennis tournaments. Top players from different countries to compete in a team format. The tournament is the women’s equivalent of the Davis Cup.

The top two teams from the Asia-Oceania Group I will advance for the play-offs while the bottom two will be relegated to the Asia-Oceania Group II for next year.
