There is no question about Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s legendary status. He was a great servant of Indian cricket for a long time. During his captaincy, India won numerous trophies and became one of the most successful international teams of all time. As  MS Dhoni turns a year older we take a look at the top 10 unbreakable records held by MS Dhoni.

  • Winning all three ICC trophies

MS Dhoni is the only captain to have won all three ICC trophies. He won the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007 by defeating arch-rivals Pakistan in the finals. He won the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2011 after defeating Sri Lanka in the finals. India won the World Cup after 28 years after Kapil Dev-led side won it in 1983. He won his third ICC trophy in 2013. Doni won the ICC Champions Trophy after defeating the hosts, England in the final. This record is impossible to break as the ICC has disbanded the Champions Trophy.

  • Fastest stumping in international cricket

MS Dhoni is arguably the greatest wicketkeeper of all time. There have been countless incidents of him defying the laws of nature as he inflicted lightning-quick stumpings. It comes as no surprise that he holds the record for the fastest stumping in international cricket. He achieved this record in 2018 in a bilateral series against the West Indies. He stumped Keemo Paul in O.08 seconds. To put his stumping into perspective it takes 0.1 – 0.4 seconds to blink an eye.

  • Most stumpings in international cricket

His wicketkeeping particularly his ability to stump batters out was so great that he could turn half chances into wickets. He holds the record for most stumpings in international cricket. He has 195 stumpings in international cricket. It is highly unlikely that any keeper will be able to replicate this feat.

  • Fastest to reach number 1 ODI batting rankings

Dhoni had only played 42 ODIs at the time, and as of April 2006, his ODI batting statistics read 1372 runs at an average of 52.76 and a strike rate of 103. Over 38 innings, he scored two tons and eight half-centuries to score those runs. He achieved the fastest player to No. 1 in ODI history in this method.

  • Most international matches as a captain

Due to his prowess as a captain, he was never dropped from captaincy and his fitness allowed him to achieve this feat. He was given the captaincy in 2007 and immediately achieved success in the T20 World Cup. When he left captaincy in 2018 he was one of the most decorated captains of all time.

  • Most matches as a captain in IPL

MS Dhoni is the most successful Indian Premier League captain of all time. He has been a captain in 226 IPL matches. Out of these 226 matches, he has won 133 matches. The next best on this list is Rohit Sharma with 158 matches as the captain. It is unlikely that Rohit will be able to break Dhoni’s record.

  • 20th over maestro in IPL

MS Dhoni is the most successful finisher when it comes to IPL. He has the record of scoring the most runs (713) in the 20th over as well as hitting the most sixes (59) in the 20th over. His hard-hitting prowess has helped his sides win numerous games in the IPL.

  • Most IPL Finals

MS Dhoni has been part of 11 IPL finals. There have been 16 seasons of the IPL out of which he has featured in 11 finals. He has been part of 10 of these finals as a captain and one as a player. He has now even won five titles.

  • Most stumpings in IPL history

Once more MS Dhoni’s wicketkeeping abilities have made it into the list. The Chennai Super Kings captain has the most stumpings in IPL history. Dhoni has 42 stumpings in IPL. The next best on this list is Dinesh Karthik who has 36 stumpings. Dhoni even has the record of the fastest stumping in IPL. He achieved this feat during the finals of IPL 2023. He stumped Shubman Gill in just 0.1 seconds.

  • Oldest IPL-winning captain

He became the oldest captain to win an IPL title during the 2023 IPL finals. He won the fifth title for Chennai Super Kings at the age of 41 years.
