Boat Race 2025: Oxford And Cambridge Up For The Historic Rivalry

The banks of the River Thames are ready to witness spectacle this weekend as thousands of fans will flock to watch the historic Boat Race. 

Continuing the historic rivalry between the two oldest universities of the UK, the rowing crews from Oxford and Cambridge Universities will compete once again.

The Boat Race came to inception 169 years ago and ever since, it became an annual event.

Cambridge have had the upper hand over Oxford for some time now in both the Men’s and Women’s races, what can the dark blue crews do this year to turn the tide?Both teams will race along the Championship Course, starting from Putney in South West London. If you’re not sure who’s who, Oxford traditionally wear dark blue while Cambridge sport lighter colours.

The amateur competition takes place on Sunday 13 April. The 79th Women’s Boat Race begins at 1.21pm, followed by the 170th Men’s Boat Race at 2.21pm.

Boat Race 2025: Route

The course is four miles, 374 yards (or 6.8 km) long and stretches between Putney and Mortlake on the River Thames.

Oxford vs Cambridge: Head-To-Head Record

Cambridge have won the most men’s races so far – leading 87-81 – and are aiming for a third successive victory.

The women’s race has been won 48 times by Cambridge, who have dominated since 2017. Oxford have won 30 times.

Cambridge secured yet another clean sweep last year to extend their advantage in the all-time standings in both the men’s and women’s races.
