Bryan Danielson Addresses His Last WWE Match Against Roman Reigns

Bryan Danielson has joined AEW after spending most of his career with WWE, where he won many world titles and established himself as a Grand Slam Champion.

During an appearance on “My Mom’s Basement with Robbie Fox,” Danielson reminisced on his final singles match in WWE against current Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns and if he knew for sure he’d end up with AEW.

“WrestleMania [37] was the one unique experience where it was just like, ‘Woah, this feels hollow,'” Danielson remarked. “… Ironically, I was thrilled for my last WWE match with Roman. It was in the Thunderdome, and I loved it. It was a bunch of shouts and manufactured noises and whatnot, and I thought to myself, ‘This is wonderful! I adore this,’ and I honestly felt it was a great way to go out.

“Because I wasn’t sure whether I was going to sign with AEW at all,” Danielson explained. “I was back and forth, but I was also considering just sort of — I don’t want to say hang it up, but just stop doing it full time and focus more on being a parent.”

Danielson, now known as Daniel Bryan in WWE, had many chances to win Reigns’ Universal Championship before “Friday Night Smackdown” on April 30th, 2021. This last encounter included an additional stipulation: if Danielson lost to Reigns, he would be banished from “Smackdown” for life. Danielson lost the main event match against the Tribal Chief after over 30 minutes of action and would not be seen on WWE broadcast again after that. After his defeat, “The American Dragon” would take a long break from wrestling.

Danielson would make an appearance in AEW at the conclusion of All Out 2021, during the main event in which Kenny Omega retained the AEW World Championship against Christian Cage, assisting Jungle Boy, Luchasaurus, and Cage in their fight against Kenny Omega, the Young Bucks, and a debuting Adam Cole. He has claimed that he has not ruled out a return to WWE; nevertheless, Danielson is now under contract with AEW and will remain for the foreseeable future.

Danielson experienced nothing short of success with WWE in terms of audience recognition, title success, major events, and so on. Danielson won the Tag Team Championships twice, each time with Kane and Rowan, as well as the United States Championship, Intercontinental Championship, World Heavyweight Championship, and WWE Championship four times. As previously stated, Danielson competed in the main event of WrestleMania 30 and the second night of WrestleMania 37.
