The Oceania Championships 2026 badminton tournament is scheduled to kick-off on February 8 in Auckland, New Zealand. The event has been organized with a revamped format spanning eight days, split between individual and team competitions.
The competition will be staged at Badminton North Harbour Centre, Auckland.
This year’s tournament will follow a new schedule designed to give players more rest. The five-day individual event happens first, followed immediately by the three-day team event.
Six nations are competing in the team championships. Australia enters as the defending champion in the Men’s division, while both Australia and New Zealand are the primary contenders for the Women’s title.
The Pacific U17 Team Challenge is also being held alongside the senior team championships (Feb 13–15).
Key players to watch include New Zealand’s Edward Lau and Shaunna Li, who have been performing strongly in recent regional circuits, and a powerful Australian contingent looking to maintain their continental dominance.

The points distribution for the Oceania Championships is determined by the BWF (Badminton World Federation) ranking system for Continental Individual Championships.
Since the Oceania Championships are categorized as a Continental Individual event, the points awarded contribute to a player’s BWF World Ranking. The distribution for 2026 follows the updated BWF point scale:
Individual Championships Points Distribution
These points are awarded to players/pairs based on their finishing position in the individual event (Feb 8–12).

Team Championships Points
For the Team Championships (Feb 13–15), players do not receive a flat amount of points just for participating. Instead:
- World Ranking Impact: Points are calculated based on the average world ranking of the opponents defeated during their matches in the team ties.
- Thomas & Uber Cup Qualification: The primary “prize” for the team event is qualification. The winning Men’s and Women’s teams earn the right to represent Oceania at the 2026 BWF Thomas & Uber Cup Finals in Denmark this April.
