The BWF Player of the Year Awards 2025 were announced during the BWF World Tour Finals 2025 Gala Dinner in Hangzhou on Monday. Shi Yu Qi, An Se Young, and Cheah Liek Hou claimed double honours at award ceremony. The awards were presented by BWF President Khunying Patama Leeswadtrakul.
Shi and An were named Men’s Singles and Women’s Singles Players of the Year, and also earned the Players’ Player of the Year accolade in their respective categories. Malaysia’s Cheah took home Para Badminton Male Player of the Year and Para Badminton Pair of the Year with Fareez Anuar.
“Last year also I got the Player of the Year award, but my performance last year can’t be compared with what I achieved this year. If I had to rate my 2025 performance, it would be 8 or 9 out of 10. But I will keep going”, said Shi.
While Shi won the award for the second consecutive year, it was a three-peat for Women’s Singles World Number 1 An.
“I feel honoured to be presented with these awards. They are encouragement for me to make more efforts. Winning titles proves my efforts; however, the Players’ Player of the Year Award is recognition from other players and it embodies the love and appreciation of my competitors, so it’s a very special one”, An said.
Twenty-year-old Victor Lai, who made history by becoming the first Canadian medallist at the BWF World Championships, was named for the Eddy Choong Rising Star of the Year Award.
The BWF Player of the Year Awards awards recognise exceptional talent, consistency, fair play, and personality across the season from December 2024 to November 2025.
