BWF World Junior Mixed Team Championships: First-Ever Medal Confirmed For India

BWF World Junior Mixed Team Championships, Guwahati: In a historic moment, India registered a come-from-behind victory over Korea in the quarterfinals on Thursday, confirming its first-ever medal at the BWF World Junior Mixed Team Championships.

India beat Korea 44-45, 45-30, 45-33 to reach the semifinals in Guwahati, thus guaranteeing itself at least a bronze.

In the semifinal, India will take on Indonesia on Friday for a place in the final.

The BWF World Junior Mixed Team Championships, also known as, Suhandinata Cup, is being held at the National Centre of Excellence,

India earlier registered a win against UAE in the pre-quarterfinals. The countrym seeded second, had beaten Nepal and Sri Lanka in their earlier two Group H clashes and went into the final round as the only unbeaten team in the group. That confidence showed in the way they approached the match against UAE, who boast of having a few players who have played in the Indian domestic circuit in the past.

The top teams in all eight groups will compete in the quarterfinals for the coveted trophy, while the others will fight in the classification rounds. Other teams to top their respective groups include China (Group D) and Indonesia (Group F).
