Top Skaters To Look For At Canadian National Skating Championships 2025

The 2025 Canadian National Skating Championships is set to begin from 14–19 January, with senior figure skating events taking place from 17–19 January.

The events will be held at Place Bell in Laval, Quebec. The competitions will provide a platform to the skaters to make their case for the Four Continents, World Junior Championships, World Championships, as well as World Junior Synchronised and World Synchronised Championships.

Canadian National Skating Championships 2025: Who to look for

Reigning pairs world champions Deanna Stellato-Dudek and Maxime Deschamps target their third straight national title. It will also be a first competition since mid-November at the Finlandia Trophy, as the pair withdrew from the Grand Prix Final in December citing illness.

Meanwhile, Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier will be looking for a fourth Canadian National Skating Championships ice dance title to mark a comeback after a disappointing end to their Grand Prix campaign due to errors at both the Finlandia Trophy and Grand Prix Final.

Other skaters on the Grand Prix circuit include pairs skaters Lia Pereira / Trennt Michaud and ice dancers Marjorie Lajoie / Zachary Lagha. 

Previous singles champions Kaiya Ruiter – the women’s defending champion – and Roman Sadovsky – who won men’s gold in 2020 – are also in the fray.

Sunday 19 January

  • 11:45 Women’s free skating
  • 15:05 Ice dance free dance

Junior competitions also take place from 15–17 January, while synchronised skating events are scheduled for 16–17 January.

In Canada, competition will also be live streamed on CBC Gem, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation’s streaming service.
