The Canadian Swimming Trials is set to take place from 7 to 12 June at the Victoria Saanich Commonwealth Place in Victoria, British Columbia. The event will bring together some of the best swimmers from the country including Olympic champions and medalists.
The top performers will represent Team Canada at the upcoming 2025 World Aquatics Championships, which start in Singapore in late July. It will be the first major international long-course competition since the Paris Olympic Games 2024.
Three-time Olympic champion Summer McIntosh headlines the 2025 Canadian Swimming Trials.
The 18-year-old swimming star has announced an ambitious race plan, which promises to put her recent altitude training in France to the test and possibly signal a new direction for her career as she transitions to training in Texas with famed coach Bob Bowman.
Summer McIntosh has announced her plan to race five individual events at the Singapore World Championships. She’s already racing in 400 free, 200 fly, 200 IM and 400 IM.
It is still not revealed as to which will be her fifth programme. Her options include the 200 free, 800 free and 200 back. However, there is a scheduling conflict at Worlds with the 200 free final falling on the same night as the 200 fly semis. That leaves her with 800 free and 200 back as her fifth event.
At the Canadian Trials, the 200 back falls on the same day as the 400 IM, so that might make the 800 free the most appealing option for McIntosh.
If it is the 800 free, it sets up an exciting showdown at the Worlds with Katie Ledecky who broke the world record in May.
McIntosh has been in a sensational form. Over the last two Canadian Trials meets, she set three world records, cracking the women’s 400 free (3:56.08) and 400 IM (4:25.87) marks in 2023 before re-lowering her 400 IM world record last summer in 4:24.38.
She already ranks 1st in the world this season in the 200 fly (2:04.00), 200 IM (2:07.42) and 400 IM (4:26.98), and sits 2nd in the 400 free (3:58.28).
