Carlos Alcaraz’s bid to reclaim the Wimbledon crown has suffered a major setback as the two-time champion confirmed on Tuesday that he will miss the tournament while recovering from a wrist injury.
“My recovery is going well and I’m feeling much better, but unfortunately I’m still not ready to play, I am obliged to withdraw from both Queen’s and Wimbledon,” said Alcaraz through a social media post
“These are two really special tournaments for me and I’ll miss them a lot. We’ll keep working to come back as soon as possible.” Alcaraz further said

Carlos Alcaraz sustained an injury during Barcelona Open
The 23-year-old sustained an injury during his opening-round match at the Barcelona Open last month. Since then, he has withdrawn from events in Madrid and Rome, as well as Roland Garros, where he entered as the defending two-time champion.
The Spaniard became the youngest man to complete the career Grand Slam in January with his triumph at the Australian Open. Alacaraz holds a 22-3 record this season and also won a title in Doha.
The world number scripted history as he became the youngest man to complete the career Grand Slam at the Australian Open in January. The 23-year-old holds a 22-3 record this season and also won a title in Doha.
Wimbledon will be the third Grand Slam tournament that Carlos Alcaraz has missed since making his major main-draw debut at the 2021 Australian Open. The Spaniard had previously pulled out of the 2023 Australian Open because of a hamstring injury.
Jannik Sinner is now the leading contender for title at Wimbledon.
Alcaraz’s ongoing wrist problem has also halted the growing rivalry between him and Italian world number one Jannik Sinner, who is now considered the leading contender for titles at both Roland Garros and Wimbledon.
The 23-year-old surrendered the top ranking after suffering a defeat to Sinner in the Monte Carlo Masters final on April 12.
