Following a technical downside with the software, UEFA conducted a brand new Champions League last-16 draw at 15:00 CET (7:30 PM IST) on Monday.
Following a technical problem with the software of an external service provider that instructs the officials as to which teams are eligible to play each other, a material error occurred in the draw for the UEFA Champions League Round of 16.

The initial draw has been declared void and can be entirely redone. The revised draw is to be created at the UEFA headquarters in Nyon.
Champions League – original last-16 draw was: Benfica vs Real Madrid, Villarreal vs Manchester City, Atletico Madrid vs Bayern Munich, Red Bull Salzburg vs Liverpool, inter vs Ajax, Sporting vs Juventus, Chelsea vs Lille, and PSG vs Manchester United.
“Following a technical drawback with the package of an external service supplier that instructs the officers on that groups are eligible to play every other, a material error occurred within the draw for the UEFA Champions League spherical of 16,” tweeted UEFA Champions League.
“As a result of this, the draw has been declared void and can be entirely redone at 15:00 CET,” the statement added.
The issue arose once group B runners-up Atletico Madrid were drawn, and their potential last-16 opponents – all group winners – were then placed into a separate pot. However, Manchester United wasn’t enclosed.
The errors by UEFA within the UCL draw as per news reports:
• Man. United drew vs Villarreal initially (same group).
• Man. United is not in Atletico’ pot.
• Real Madrid were in Villarreal’ pot (same nation).
• Liverpool included in Atletico’ pot (same group).
REVISED DRAW
After a technical error meant the one created earlier on Monday had to be voided, the draw has was redone for the Champions League spherical of 16.
The round tie sees Atlético national capital facing Manchester United, whereas PSG can face Real Madrid.
