ICC Champions Trophy 2025: ‘This is not a T20 match or a party’, veteran English cricketer warns Bumrah’s replacement

India has warned the other teams by clean sweeping England 3-0 in the three-match ODI series before the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The most important thing was that Team India entered this series without Jasprit Bumrah. Bumrah is injured and has been ruled out of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. In such a situation, Bumrah was replaced by Harshit Rana. However, former England cricketer David Lloyd believes that Arshdeep Singh will be the real replacement of Bumrah in this tournament, because Arshdeep also has the ability to bowl in the death overs. Lloyd has also warned Arshdeep not to make the mistake of considering it as T20 cricket or a party.

David Lloyd made a statement about Arshdeep

Former England coach David ‘Bumble’ Lloyd said that Arshdeep, who is set to replace Bumrah in India’s playing XI, will have a lot of trouble adjusting from T20 cricket to ODI cricket. Speaking on TalkSport Cricket, he said, ‘This is a great opportunity for a player to emerge. A player who feels that his place is not confirmed. However, you cannot get away from the fact that he (Bumrah) is the best bowler in the world and if he is not playing for you, you may have to face problems.’

Arshdeep has played nine ODIs for India so far

Arshdeep Singh is India’s highest T20 wicket-taker, but he has played only nine ODIs so far. Lloyd said that coming from T20 International to ODI will be a big change. He said, ‘There is a big difference between the two formats. There is a difference between bowling four overs and 10 overs. If you are the opposition team, then test Arshdeep’s bowling. Try to dominate him.’

Three fast bowlers in India’s ICC Champions Trophy Squad

Lloyd said, ‘This is not a T20 match, this is not a party, you have to come back after a bad spell and this happens many times in the match.’ Arshdeep is one of the three pacers selected by Team India for the Champions Trophy 2025 along with veteran Mohammed Shami and recent debutant Harshit Rana. India has selected five spinners in its team keeping in mind the conditions in Dubai.

Champions Trophy 2025: India may miss Bumrah

Arshdeep has performed quite well in nine ODIs so far for India. He has taken 14 wickets at an average of 23. However, Arshdeep played only one match in the three-match ODI series against England, while Shami played two and Rana was part of Team India’s playing 11 in all three matches. The absence of Bumrah, who was named the ICC Cricketer of the Year for 2024, will definitely be felt by India. He was in great form recently. India can go into the Champions Trophy with two frontline fast bowlers. Hardik Pandya can be seen playing the role of the third fast bowler.
