5 Min Read

The Indian flag is absent for the Champions Trophy to be hosted in Karachi Stadium. The Indian team has not agreed to visit Pakistan and will host all the matches in Dubai. According to the deal between the Pakistan Cricket Board and ICC, India and Pakistan teams will not play in the tournaments to be hosted in the two countries.

Pakistan does not cease its games against India. It does this or that which causes controversy. A controversy had broken out even before the commencement of the ICC Champions Trophy after a video went viral on social media.

Indian fans have questioned why the Indian flag could not be noticed at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium and Karachi’s National Stadium. Flags of the remaining countries involved in the trophy were visible at the stadium, but India’s flag was absent.

Viral video claim – India’s flag is not in Pakistan’s stadium

This created a buzz on social media and many were shocked. The actual reason for the Indian flag not being there is not yet known. But, it is thought that India is hosting all its Champions Trophy matches in Dubai, so Pakistan may have done this. New Zealand, South Africa, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and England matches are going to be played at Karachi Stadium. A video of the stadium appeared just a few days ago when the tournament began.

Why did Pakistan play such a cheap trick?

In this video, flags of all nations were seen, except India’s flag. Fans are curious to know why the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) did this. The Indian team had refused to travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy. Following this, PCB and the International Cricket Council (ICC) had to shift the tournament to hybrid mode. In this deal, India will be hosting all of its matches in Dubai. In case the team reaches the finals and semi-finals, then they too will take place in Dubai.

Pakistan, as per the deal between ICC, PCB, and BCCI, will also not host its games in ICC tournaments to be hosted in India. This issue has surfaced at a time when the ICC Champions Trophy is about to begin. The viral social media video shows the flags of other nations at the National Stadium of Karachi, but the Indian flag is absent.

This has come as a shock to the fans and has raised outrage on social media. Yet, the reason behind this is still not known. It is rumored that as the Indian team is hosting all its Champion Trophy matches in Dubai, the PCB might have not hoisted the Indian flag.

The Karachi stadium will have matches of teams from New Zealand, South Africa, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and England. A video of the stadium, just a few days before the tournament commenced, was seen, in which the flag of all the competing nations could be seen, but no Indian flag. This has dismayed the people and they would like to know why the PCB did this.

The Indian squad had declined to go to Pakistan based on security concerns, by virtue of which the PCB and the ICC were compelled to change the tournament to a hybrid format. According to this setup, India will host all its matches, the semi-finals and the final included, in Dubai.

As part of a deal between the BCCI, PCB, and ICC, Pakistan will also not host its matches in ICC events in India in the next few years. The move is an indication of the complexity of cricketing relations between the two nations. But fans expect the sportsmanship to win the day and the tournament to be a success.
