List Of players That Have Won The Player Of The Match For Three Consecutive IPL Matches: Sameer Rizvi has now become a member of the select group of players to receive the ‘Player of the Match Award’ three times in a row during the IPL tournament.
Achieving the ‘Player of the Match’ award for just one performance in a significant event, like the IPL, is pretty impressive.
However, being awarded the ‘Player of the Match’ three consecutive times is recognised as one of the highest individual achievements for a player because it shows not only that a player is in great form but that they have been able to produce a match-winning performance on every occasion.
Historically, there are only a very small number of players who have accomplished this unique achievement throughout the history of the tournament. Most recently, Sameer Rizvi of the Delhi Capitals set this record and joins several of the greatest players to have ever played the game.
Some of the other players that have been awarded ‘Player of the Match’ three times consecutively include some of the all-time greats such as Virat Kohli, Jacques Kallis, and Jos Buttler.
List Of players That Have Won The Player Of The Match For Three Consecutive IPL Matches
1. Jacques Kallis
Jacques Kallis is the first person ever to win a “Player of the Match” award in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
He accomplished the feat while playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore during the 2010 season of the IPL when he won this specific award for three consecutive matches.
In the first match, he scored an unbeaten 89 runs off 55 balls and claimed one wicket, helping his team successfully chase down a target exceeding 200 runs. Following this, he delivered a magnificent all-round performance against Rajasthan, scoring an unbeaten 44 runs and taking two wickets.
In the third match, he played an innings of 66 not out and took one wicket, guiding his team to victory. He was named ‘Player of the Match’ in all three of these games.
2. Virender Sehwag
In 2012, Virender Sehwag led the Delhi franchise to three consecutive Player of the Match awards. In the first match of the series, Sehwag scored 87 not out to help guide his team to a comfortable win.
In the second match of the series, Sehwag scored 73 runs off just 39 balls to lead his team’s total to over 200 runs. In the third match of the series, Sehwag scored 63 runs to help lead his team to an exciting win.
2. Aaron Finch
In 2016 Aaron Finch took part in a series of memorable match winning innings with the Gujarat Lions, and received player of the match for each of his three consecutive matches.
These innings also featured three of his five half centuries during the tournament as he led his team to victory whilst chasing in all three instances. The most memorable of Finch’s innings (67 runs off 54 balls) came against Mumbai when he won the match for the Lions off of the last ball.
3. Virat Kohli
Kohli accomplished this in 2016, the highest scoring year since the start of Indian Premier League; his performance during that season was unprecedented for him and also considered one of if not the greatest individual performances in IPL history.
During the season, Kohli played outstanding games scoring over 100 runs in three matches within a row, whereby in one game, he scored 113 runs from 50 balls; he amassed a total of 973 runs and these records are still unbroken since that time.
4. Jos Buttler
Jos Buttler scored 80+ runs in three consecutive matches while representing Rajasthan Royals in the year 2018, amassing 82, 95* & 94* to help his team to three straight victories. What was so impressive about these particular innings is that he was in full control of the game throughout and remained not out at the end every time.
5. Ruturaj Gaikwad
In his first year (2020) with the team, Ruturaj Gaikwad was awarded Player of the Match three times in a row over three games. He scored 65*, 72, and 65* in those three matches and played a key role in generating back-to-back wins for the Chennai Super Kings.
6. Sameer Rizvi
A guy named Sameer Rizvi has also become the last member of this group with two separate seasons completed as either – by scoring 58 not out off 25 balls in his team’s coset in the final match of IPL 2025 when leading his team to win by chasing down a target set at 207 runs (with a score of 207 runs) then later on (in 2026), by scoring 70 runs off 47 balls and again with 90 off 51, was again the 2nd winner
There are multiple ways for 1 person named Sameer Rizvi to get to be in 1st place on that trophy. The achievement of winning the ‘Player of the Match’ award in three consecutive IPL matches is considered exceptionally special, as no player to date has managed to win it four times in a row.
It will now be interesting to see, in the times to come, whether any player is able to break this record.
