The England Women vs Ireland Women, the 8th match of the group stage of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, began after a slight delay due to rain at Southampton. England Women are carrying a good momentum into the match with a dominating win in their last game, whereas Ireland Women are entering the match after losing their last game. The contest will decide a lot of things as England-W will look to lock in their dominance by winning back-to-back matches, and Ireland-W will look to register their first win in the tournament.

The toss was won by England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt, who elected to bowl first as the pitch looked good for chasing, and in the second half, dew can be a major factor in the game. Ireland-W captain Gaby Lewis was also looking to bat first and set a fighting total. 

The playing XI for the Contest, England-W made no changes to the squad, and Ireland-W made one change as Louise Little is back in the XI.

England Women vs Ireland Women: ENG-W’s Aggressive Bowling Line-up Restricts IRE-W at 118/9 

The England Women vs Ireland Women match began with a four on the first ball of the match by Amy Hunter, as Lauren Bell’s loose delivery made Hunter score a boundary over fine leg, and the first over brought 6 runs for Ireland-W. The first breakthrough for England-W came in the 2nd over, where Linsey Smith’s top-off delivery led Amy Hunter into trouble as she got edged and lost her wicket after scoring 6(5). 

In the next 3rd over, England-W got their 2nd breakthrough in the form of the captain’s wicket, as Gaby Lewis was trying to hit a stroke and she stepped out, but the ball went straight to the middle overs. Gaby Lewis got out on a golden duck. Things were getting rough for Ireland-W as they lost their third batter, Alana Dalzell, who got caught out after scoring 14(18), in Charlie Dean’s over on the third ball of the 5th over, and Ireland were at 38/3 after 6 overs. 

As the England Women vs Ireland Women match progressed in the middle overs, the match got more scratchy for Ireland-W, as they were losing their wickets at regular intervals of time and none of the batters settled on the crease and scored runs. As the highest contribution in the first innings by the Ireland-W batting line-up was by Orla Prendergast of 26 runs in 18 balls, and Louise Little gave crucial 5 boundaries, as her 26*(15) led Ireland to a total of 118/9.

England-W’s bowling line-up showed complete dominance throughout the 20 overs, as Sophie Ecclestone took 3 wickets and conceded 22 runs in 4 overs, and Charlie Dean dismissed 2 batters of Ireland-W. Dani Gibson also took 2 crucial wickets. The bowling unit showed complete domination and was successful in restricting Ireland-W from scoring runs.

England Women vs Ireland Women: Nat Sciver-Heather Kinght Partnership Led ENG-W to 4 Wicket Win 

England Women vs Ireland Women, in the second innings of the match, the target for England Women was only 119 runs to chase in 20 overs with a run rate of just 5.95. The target seemed easy, but the pitch was reacting differently as the bounce and turn for spinners was good, and batters were struggling to score runs. England Women got a good start as, till 4 overs, they were at 27/0. 

 In the 5th over, England-W lost 2 wickets in a single over as, in Aimee Maguire’s over, she got both the openers. Amy Jones scored 9(10), and Danni Wyatt-Hodge got out after scoring 16(16). Alice Capsey got bowled in the 6th over on Prendergast’s pace, and Capsey scored 5(4). After 6 overs, England-W were at 35/3, where Heather Knight was 0*(2) and Nat Sciver-Brunt was 3*(4).

As the England Women vs Ireland Women match entered the middle overs chase, England Women needed a partnership, and Sciver, the captain, and Heather successfully made a 64-run partnership, where Nat Sciver-Brunt gave a 36-run contribution, and Heather Knight scored 26 runs. This partnership became the biggest reason that England-W chased the total of 119 runs by 4 wickets and registered their second win of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026.
