“He’s a big fella” – Conor Coady Mocks Ryan Reynolds To Become Wrexham Player

4 Min Read

Ryan Reynolds, joint owner of Wrexham AFC, was a high-profile visitor to the Racecourse Ground when the club hosted their first home match of the 2025-26 Championship campaign against West Brom. Among the numerous new signings he greeted was summer arrival Conor Coady, who couldn’t resist joking that Reynolds may be good enough to hold down a place at the center of Wrexham’s defense.

A Star-Studded Welcome to Wrexham

The hype around Wrexham has only intensified since their Hollywood acquisition by Ryan Reynolds and fellow actor Rob McElhenney. With the club making a number of high-profile signings during the summer, the likes of Kieffer Moore, Nathan Broadhead, and Liberato Cacace, one of the standout players to join was England international Conor Coady.

Appearing on BBC Radio Five Live’s Monday Night Club, Coady described how bizarre his introduction to the club was beginning with a message from Rob and then a surprise video from none other than Ryan Reynolds himself.

“I received a WhatsApp from an American number and it was a video from Ryan Reynolds. I was sitting on the couch with my missus and just went, ‘Wow!’ I was starstruck in all honesty.”

Would Ryan Reynolds Really Be Able to Play for Wrexham?

When first meeting Reynolds in person, Coady was impressed by the actor’s physical stature and joked that the “big fella” could fit in beside him in central defence.

“He’s a big fella. I told him he could play centre-half with me,” Coady chuckled. “He said he’d never played football in his life, but he was a very nice chap.”

Coady was impressed by Reynolds and McElhenney not only for their fame, but for their compassion and passion towards the club and community.

“What Ryan Reynolds, Rob McElhenney, and the whole staff have done for Wrexham is just unbelievable.”

What’s Next for Wrexham?

Following a transfer-sagged summer of drama and international interest, Wrexham AFC now look to pick up their first points of the season in the Championship. They take on Sheffield Wednesday in a home match on Saturday, with Reynolds sure to be present once more, vociferously supporting his team.

Ryan Reynolds and Wrexham: A Match Made in Football Fairytale

Ryan Reynolds’s journey with Wrexham continues to win the hearts of football fans globally. With promotional campaigns to touching fan moments, the Hollywood star has evolved beyond being a figurehead he’s a part of the club’s narrative.

And although we will never get to see Reynolds sporting a Wrexham jersey on the pitch, his presence, passion, and surprise sense of humour continue to raise spirits about the Racecourse Ground.

From Conor Coady’s side-splitting centre-back joke to emotional exchanges with the club’s newest signings, Ryan Reynolds demonstrates once more why his presence at Wrexham is greater than mere celeb ownership. With the new campaign in full flow and promotion aspirations within reach, the Red Dragons’ Hollywood fairytale continues to gather pace.
