Cristiano Ronaldo: The Record Man, Credits- Vecteezy
Cristiano Ronaldo was named the player with the most wins in international football history with 132 wins, surpassing the previous record of his former Real Madrid teammate Sergio Ramos. This memorable milestone was set in November last year, when Ronaldo scored twice to help Portugal beat Poland 5-1 in the Nations League.
Before the second leg of the Nations League quarterfinal matchup against Denmark at the Estadio Alvalade, Ronaldo was felicitated with a Guinness World Record. In addition, Cristiano Ronaldo is the most followed person on Instagram, the first player to achieve 100 goals in the Champions League, and the highest scorer in the history of international football.
On August 20, 2003, the Portuguese won his first game for the nation, marking his debut back in 2003.
Cristiano Ronaldo was fouled by Danish defender Patrick Dorgu in the first few minutes of the match, and Portugal was given a penalty. But goalie Kasper Schmeichel stopped Ronaldo’s penalty, handing the Portuguese great a rare miss.
To the joy of the crowd at the stadium, Ronaldo eventually had his moment of redemption in the 72nd minute of the game when he buried the rebound to equalize the score for Portugal on aggregate and then performed his “Siu” celebration.
“I think today we had a feast of football and that’s important. The Seleção is not for criticizing the coach or to have a debate. It’s for us to be proud, to enjoy the players we have. Today we saw a mixture of generations: Bernardo Silva played his 100th Portugal game, Geovany Quenda was on the bench. This is a very, very special changing room.
“I’d like to say that all the fans, the Portuguese people, should be very proud of this team. The first game did not go well, we accept that, but today we used the advantage of playing in front of our own fans to create a special atmosphere, which helped a lot. We played a game, that as the manager, I’m very happy with.
“The number of players who entered the pitch showed the work we have been doing over these two years, not just these last two days, and scoring five goals is always important. I think today our performance was very, very good, and we completely wiped away our display in Copenhagen.
