Cristiano Ronaldo is due to play in his last ever FIFA World Cup this summer. However, recent developments have cast major doubts in the minds of the fans.

On February 28, Ronaldo picked up an injury during Al Nassr’s game against Al Fayha. While Al Nassr managed to secure a victory, the celebrations were marred by the Portuguese player getting injured in the 81st minute.

Shortly after the match, it was revealed that Ronaldo had suffered muscle fatigue, and the medical staff will do necessary tests to determine his condition. However, after undergoing tests, it became clear that the injury was more serious than it looked. As of now, Ronaldo is doing everything he can to come back to his 100% as soon as possible. But reports suggest he  may need around four weeks.

Cristiano Ronaldo is set to play in the FIFA World Cup

Despite the current injury, Ronaldo is expected to play in the World Cup later this year. The competition is months away, and the former Real Madrid star would most likely get fit by then. Moreover, the Portugal national team is set to play two friendlies later this month, and there’s a chance he makes his return by then.

However, if the injury causes a bigger delay than four weeks, it may eventually result in him playing a limited part during the World Cup.  Portugal’s first match in the competition will be on June 17, when they take on the winner of the play-off involving New Caledonia, Jamaica, and DR Congo.

Moreover, Portugal will also take on the likes of Uzbekistan and Colombia in the group stage. For those unaware, Cristiano Ronaldo will be playing in his last World Cup this summer. He is looking to make history this summer by playing at a record sixth World Cup finals, having played at every edition since 2006.

Currently, he is one of just six players to have played in five different World Cups. The list also includes Lionel Messi, who is also set to play in his sixth World Cup this summer.
