Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are once again in the spotlight as the player retention deadline of November 15, 2025, gets closer. The team, led by Ruturaj Gaikwad, is reportedly discussing a major trade involving Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson. If this trade goes through, it could be one of the biggest transfer moves in recent IPL history.

According to recent reports, Rajasthan Royals may send Sanju Samson to CSK in exchange for Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran. Jadeja has been one of the most important players for CSK over the years, contributing both with the bat and ball. Sam Curran has also played a key role with his all-round performances.

Jadeja has played 186 matches for CSK, scoring 2,198 runs and taking 143 wickets. Curran, on the other hand, has played 64 IPL matches in total, scoring 997 runs and picking up 59 wickets. Both players hold strong value as all-rounders, which is why this trade is drawing so much attention.

If Sam Curran is traded, CSK may look to bring in another all-rounder to balance their squad. Here are three players who could be possible replacements.

1. Brandon McMullen (Scotland)

Brandon McMullen is a rising all-rounder from Scotland. He has played 23 T20Is and has impressed with 629 runs at a strike rate of 145.93. He can also bowl medium pace and has taken seven wickets. His standout performance in the 2024 T20 World Cup showed that he can play against strong teams under pressure. His ability to contribute in both departments makes him a strong option for CSK.

2. Jason Holder (West Indies)

Jason Holder brings height, pace, and experience. He played for CSK in 2013 and has since become one of the most reliable all-rounders in world cricket. Holder has played 46 IPL games, taking 53 wickets and scoring 259 runs. He can bowl in the powerplay and also in the death overs. His batting in the lower order gives stability. CSK could benefit from his calm and mature approach.

3. Dwaine Pretorius (South Africa)

Dwaine Pretorius has already played for CSK before, which means he understands the team environment. He retired from international cricket in 2023 but still plays in various leagues. Pretorius is known for his death-over bowling and clever variations. He has taken 248 wickets in T20 cricket and scored nearly 3,000 runs. If CSK wants someone who fits naturally into their style, Pretorius can be a strong choice.
