Dallas Mavericks is one of the five teams in the Southwest division of Western Conference which plays in the NBA. The team shares its arena- American Airlines Center with National Hockey League‘s Dallas Stars. It is from where the team plays its home games.

The said team also known as Mavs was founded in 1980. Initially, the Mavericks were led by All-Stars Rolando Blackman and Mark Aguirre. The team became a perennial playoff team in 1980’s. Mavericks acquired players – Mark Aguirre, Rolando Blackman and Jay Vincent in 1981. The team was led by Mark Aguirre in 1982–83. Mavericks. Then in 1982-83, for the first time, the team became serious contenders and stood sixth in the NBA. In the 1983 NBA draft, the team acquired Derek Harper. In 1983-84, Mavericks posted a winning record in franchise history for the first time. The 1984-85 NBA season was better for the team than the previous season. The team was led by Mark Aguirre, in the 1985 NBA All-Star game, Rolando Blackman represented the Mavs. The team got the eighth pick in the 1985 NBA draft.
In 1986-87, Mavericks got their midwest division title but in the 1987-88 season, the team lost their Midwest division title. In the 1988 NBA All Star game, Mark Aguirre and James Donaldson both played. In 1989-90, the team returned to the playoffs. The team stayed in the rebuilding phase in 1990’s and had to face struggle. Rodney McCray, Fat Lever, and Alex English were the players acquired by Mavericks. Dirk Werner Nowitzki, a German basketball team player, joined the team in 1998 which improved the team’s performance.
After the 2011 Championship, the team again struggled and entered into a rebuilding phase. From 2017 to 2019, the team missed the playoffs and returned to the playoffs in 2020.
Championships and Accomplishments:
The franchise won the NBA championship in 2011. 2019 Rookie of the Year Luka Dončić, became the lead of the team in 2020 and then after the 2011 Championship, the team entered into league’s championship finals in 2022 but did not win. Since the foundation of the team in the 1980-81 season, the team has won two conference championships in 2006 and 2011 and four division titles in 1987, 2007, 2010, 2021.
