The Davis Cup 2025 qualifiers which kicked off on 30 January are underway and will run through to 2 February 2025.
Davis Cup is a men’s international team tournament in which several nations from across the globe take part. It is organised by the International Tennis Federation.
There are 26 nations featuring in first round ties, including the 14 countries from the group stages of the Davis Cup 2024 Finals, and the 12 winners from the World Group I Play-Offs last year.
Teams battle out in a best-of-five match format spread over two days, with matches hosted by the nation listed first in the scoresheet. Two singles matches- known as ‘rubbers’-was played on the first day, with a doubles match and two reverse singles matches on the second day. All rubbers are the best-of-three sets.
The 13 winners of this week’s ties will advance to September’s second round of qualifiers of Davis Cup 2025. The 2024 finalists Netherlands have received a bye into the second round. In September, seven teams will qualify for the Davis Cup 2025 Finals, joining defending champions Italy in chase for the title in November.
