This is a major setback for the Delhi Capitals (DC) team, especially before the WPL 2026 season, as two players, Deeya Yadav and Mamatha Madiwala, are ruled out of the season due to injuries. The team management immediately replaced these players with Pragati Singh and E Srujana.
Both of these replacement players have already been signed at the base price of INR 10 lakh each, with DC looking to strengthen their playing XI midway through the tournament.
Who Are the Replacements? Pragati Singh and E Srujana Step In
Pragati Singh: Promising Allround Option
The seam bowling all-rounder from Punjab, who plays in the domestic scene, is a twenty-two-year-old named Pragati Singh. She performed well in the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy by becoming second-highest run-scorer with an impressive score of 143 runs, striking at a rate of 105.14. Moreover, the bowling talent of the cricketer was also seen as she picked up eight wickets in the last one-day season.
E Srujana: The Familiar Face
Fast bowler E Srujana, aged 20 years, joins the Delhi Capitals after having been with the team as a net bowler. having represented the Hyderabad team in the senior domestic competition in the 2023-24 season and has been part of youth cricket as well.
Deeya Yadav’s Absence Leaves a Void
The lack of Deeya Yadav was felt most in DC. Deeya has carved her name in the records of WPL with her debut as the youngest debutante in WPL at the age of 16 years and 103 days, playing for DC against Mumbai Indians in Vadodara. Though Deeya didn’t get to either bat or bowl, her participation for DC proved her faith in young players. Deeya had been drafted in the XI in place of Minnu Mani.
Mamatha Madiwala Still Awaiting WPL Debut
Another wicketkeeper in the team, namely Mamatha Madiwala, who was yet to make her debut in the WPL, is also set to miss the entire season in the year 2026.
Delhi Capitals’ Season So Far
Delhi Capitals are already dealing with the availability blues, having earlier suffered the loss of Australian allrounder Annabel Sutherland, who opted out of the tournament citing personal reasons.
As of now, DC are placed at the fourth spot on the points table after having won two and lost three matches so far this season. Their next game is scheduled to face Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), which will take place on Saturday evening.
Key Takeaway
Since Deeya Yadav is ruled out and the team is again put on test in terms of strength in depth, Delhi Capitals will look to put faith back in their replacements and seasoned players in order to pick up momentum again in WPL 2026.
