Derek Chisora, the British heavyweight, has revealed that he will make his return in December in what will be his 50th professional fight. The 41-year-old veteran fighter took to Instagram to confirm that the landmark fight will take place in Manchester on December 13th.
It will be a special occasion as Chisora proceeds on to the next chapter of his legendary career, seeking to perform an exciting match in front of his fans.
Derek Chisora’s Road to 50: A Milestone Battle in Manchester
We are going back to Manchester, 13th of December road to 50. Book your hotels, book your restaurants, me Queensberry, and we’re coming to shut it down in Manchester 13th of December.
Opponent will be announced soon. I had one, but the big boss took it. Can’t really argue when the big boss says what he wants. Road to 50 in Manchester, shutdown, Last Dance 2 happening in Manchester. War!”
Though Chisora did not identify the opponent for his 50th bout, he indicated that there was a shift, as the initial opponent was substituted by another at the behest of the “big boss.” The “big boss” has not been identified yet, although it is rumoured to be Turki Alalshikh, a key figure in the boxing arena.
Chisora’s Recent Successes and Career Journey
Chisora, with a career mark of 36-13 (23 KOs), has continued to be a prominent force in the heavyweight division. Chisora recently defeated Otto Wallin by a 12-round points decision in February, in front of a crowd of Manchester. The fight, as part of the Queensberry promotion, was titled “The Last Dance,” even though it was his 49th. Chisora’s determination and resilience were evident in that victory.
Chisora is now the IBF mandatory challenger but will have to wait a long time in the queue for a title fight with undisputed champion Oleksandr Usyk. The two had earlier fought in October 2020, when Usyk won by decision. Despite of the defeat, Chisora is among the most highly regarded and resilient fighters in the heavyweight division.
Potential Opponents for Derek Chisora’s 50th Fight
There have been rumors of possible opponents for Chisora’s 50th bout. Last August, Mick Francis, manager of Australian cruiserweight Jai Opetaia, said that Turki Alalshikh had expressed interest in pitting Chisora against Opetaia, the IBF cruiserweight champion. This is considered an interesting matchup with both sides apparently willing to do it.
But some others, such as Francis, have expressed fears about Chisora’s prospects against Opetaia, attributing the Australian’s speed and technical ability to count among the factors that might favor him over Chisora, whose power and toughness have become legendary. Francis noted that the bout would be very much of interest but warned that Opetaia might be one fight too many for Chisora.
The Prospect of a Third Bout with Joseph Parker
Another speculated fight that has been brought up is a third bout between Derek Chisora and New Zealand’s Joseph Parker. Chisora’s promoter, Frank Warren, has already revealed that he wants to pursue this trilogy fight, particularly after Parker’s success in his last two battles against Chisora. Although it remains speculative whether there will be a third encounter, Warren highlighted that the choice would rest with Chisora.
However, Parker is currently tied up with other commitments. He is scheduled to fight WBA interim champion Fabio Wardley on October 25th, which could delay any potential negotiations for a third meeting between the two heavyweights.
Chisora’s December 13th Return: A Major Event in Manchester
Although the rival for Derek Chisora’s record 50th bout is unknown, the December 13th date in Manchester will be one of the year’s most prominent boxing fixtures. Whether or not Chisora tops the bill or prospect Moses Itauma is the main attraction, supporters can look forward to an evening of thrilling heavyweight action.
With the fight nearing, it is clear that Chisora’s 50th fight will be a career milestone. Ahead of climbing back into the ring, fans and analysts can not wait to see another new chapter unfold in Derek Chisora’s life.
