Dhoni has stated his wish of having his farewell game in cricket with CSK next season. He hopes to pull the famous yellow jersey in front of his home crowd at Chepauk one last time.

Dhoni along with Deepak Chahar, Imran Tahir, and Shardul Thakur was live on CSK’s official YouTube page interacting with the CSK fans. A fan expressed her disappointment to Dhoni for not choosing to have a farewell game for India.

“It can’t be a better day than that — 15th August. When it comes to the farewell, you can always come and see me play for CSK and that can be my farewell game. You will still get that opportunity to bid me farewell. Hopefully we’ll come to Chennai and will play my last game over there and I can meet all my fans,”

Despite his batting performance in decline, the Ranchi-born player’s leadership is next to none in the game. Dhoni has led the Chennai Super Kings to an unprecedented 11th play-off in the IPL. Last season CSK went out on league phase recording their lowest ever finish of the seventh spot. Meanwhile, the Chennai-based side has played in a record eight finals previously in the IPL. They have won three of those games. Dhoni and CSK have achieved this feat despite the franchise being banned for two IPL seasons.

After the IPL season, the former India captain is set to mentor the Indian team for the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Dhoni will be retained – India Cements

Meanwhile, an India Cements official said that Dhoni will continue with CSK next season. He also speculated that the captain could continue for a few more years with the Chennai franchise before calling it a day.

He said,

“We are going to retain MS Dhoni, he will be there next year and maybe few more years. Nothing has been decided yet, all he said was fans can see his farewell match in Chennai. There is no way to conclude that next year is his last one”.
