India has a rich history of producing some of the greatest players in the sport and has achieved some incredible feats that set them apart from the rest of the countries. Here are some unbreakable records held by the Indian hockey team that might never be broken:
Most Olympics gold medals
In the sport of hockey, India has eight Olympic gold medals. India’s tally of eight Olympics gold medals is the highest by any team. The second-best team in Germany with four gold medals. Going beyond India’s record may be a distant objective in the sporting event given the unpredictability of multiple teams in the mix in prior Olympic competitions. India has totaled 12 medals they also won a silver medal in 1960 and three bronze medals in 1968, 1972 and 2020).
Six consecutive gold medals
India was an unbeatable team from its debut in the Olympics in 1928 till 1956. During these 28 years in the six Olympics (no Olympics in 1940 and 1944 due to war) that took place the Indian team won the gold medal every time.
The first three gold medals in 1928, 1932 and 1936 came from British India while the other three gold medals in 1948, 1952 and 1956 came from an independent India.
The Indian team came just short in 1960 as they could have their seventh gold in a row when they lost in the finals to Pakistan. India won two more gold medals in 1964 and 1980.

Most career goals
Major Dhyan Chand, an Indian hockey player, is recognized as one of the all-time greats of the game. He was well known for having superb ball control and a knack for scoring goals during a time when India dominated hockey. In addition to these victories, India won the hockey competition in seven of the eight Olympics held between 1928 and 1964, highlighting the player’s impact.
Dhyan Chand has the record for scoring the most career goals. He scored 570 goals in 185 games. Dhyan Chand had a healthy average of scoring more than three goals every game. The former Indian Captain even has the record for the most goals in the Olympics where he scored 101 goals.
