Javed Miandad, a former captain of Pakistan’s cricket team, recently made sensational remarks regarding India’s refusal to travel to Pakistan for the 2023 Asia Cup. Pakistan’s great batsman clarified his recent contentious statement in which he blamed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for India’s refusal to tour Pakistan.
For the first time in 14 years, Pakistan is expected to host the Asia Cup. Jay Shah, the BCCI secretary and president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), stated in October that India would not travel to Pakistan for the tournament due to diplomatic tensions. At the recent ACC meeting, the BCCI reiterated its call for a natural venue.
JAVED MIANDAD: IT WILL BENEFIT BOTH NATIONS
Javed Miandad, who was chastised in India for saying “India can go to hell,” made it clear that he meant to say that Pakistan is unconcerned if India chooses not to play in Pakistan.
“Do you understand what hell is? Don’t play if you don’t want to. We don’t have any issues. Inquire of the Indian cricketers. They’ll also argue that these two teams should play each other in their respective countries. It will benefit both countries,” he stated in a YouTube video.
“If they believe that their (India’s) absence from Pakistan makes a difference, let me assure them that it does not. That’s exactly what I meant. We are self-sufficient. Pakistan has produced top-tier cricketers and ice hockey players. “Neighboring countries are playing with each other all over the world,” he added.
THEY WERE INVITED TO RESIDENTS’ HOUSES IN LAHORE – JAVED MIANDAD
Miandad recalled happier times between India and Pakistan, saying Lahore residents invited Indian players to their homes during matches in Pakistan.
“Previously, we would go there and then they would come here. When India came to play a series in Pakistan, a large number of Indians came to watch. There were no hotels available, so the residents of Lahore invited them to their homes. It had a very positive impact on the two countries’ relations.”
Following the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, India and Pakistan’s bilateral series is almost over. However, in 2012-13, Pakistan visited India for a white-ball series. At the ICC and ACC tournaments, the two teams have played some exciting matches. The Men in Green last visited India for the T20 World Cup in 2016.
