Donald Trump Claims Club World Cup Trophy Will Stay in the Oval Office, Says FIFA Made a Copy for Chelsea
Of course he did.
In one of the most bizarre post-match twists in football history, yes, even more bizarre than Drake wearing both clubs’ kits, former U.S. President Donald Trump has claimed the FIFA Club World Cup trophy now permanently belongs to… the Oval Office.
Yup. According to Trump, Chelsea didn’t actually get the real thing after their dominant 3-0 win over Paris Saint-Germain in the final. FIFA just, you know, whipped up a copy for them. As you do.
Trump Keeps the Trophy. Chelsea Get the Replica?
The final took place at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, and in true Trump fashion, he wasn’t just there, he was front and centre. Standing alongside FIFA President Gianni Infantino, Trump helped hand the trophy to Reece James, who looked thrilled/confused/somewhere in between.
But here’s the kicker, post-match, Trump told DAZN that FIFA had basically gifted him the original trophy for life.
“I said, when are you going to pick up the trophy? [They said] ‘We’re never going to pick it up. You can have it forever in the Oval Office. We’re making a new one.’”

According to him, the real one is sitting pretty in the White House. Or at least, in his version of it. FIFA? Still radio silent on the whole thing. No official comment yet, probably because they’re still trying to figure out what just happened.
Infantino, Football, and Presidential Shenanigans
Let’s rewind a bit. Back in March, Infantino had actually brought the newly-designed Club World Cup trophy to the Oval Office, 100 days before the start of the new-look tournament. He called it “a unique trophy, with a key. There’s no other sports trophy like this.” Bold words. Apparently bold enough for Trump to claim it as interior décor.
And as if things weren’t weird enough, Trump didn’t just present the trophy, he stayed on stage during the celebrations. Chelsea players were jumping around him like it was a GTA glitch. Cole Palmer, who bagged a brace in the final and won the Golden Ball, admitted he was a little thrown off:

“I knew he was going to be here, but I didn’t know he was going to be on the stand when we lifted the trophy, so I was a bit confused.”
Same, Cole. Same.
Also worth noting: Trump appeared to leave the stage wearing a medal. Yes, FIFA President Infantino literally handed Trump a medal, right after giving one to James. Maybe that’s the Presidential Fair Play Award?
