Sunil Gavaskar the former Indian captain believes that opener Rohit Sharma to repeat his 2019 World Cup performances. In the upcoming five-match Test series against England which will start from August 4. Rohit for the first time has been an opener in England, that too in the big event that is the WTC Final. Previously when the 2019 ODI World Cup was hosted in England Rohit Sharma has scored five centuries. This is the highest number of centuries scored by a batsman in a single edition.

Gavaskar believes there is no reason why stylish right-hander cannot repeat the same thing time around in test cricket. Sunil Gavaskar said now Rohit Sharma has added experience in opening the batting for India even in test format. It should not be a surprise to anyone if the right-hander repeats his World Cup success.

Gavaskar said, “We saw Rohit Sharma score five incredible hundreds in the World Cup in England two years back”. Gavaskar also added “The century he got against South Africa was on a tough pitch and cold conditions and he made the adjustments beautifully. Now two years later he is even more experienced so, don’t be surprised if he repeats that performance in the series too.

Rohit Sharma was one of the few Indian batsmen who looked in control against New Zealand seamers in overcast conditions in the WTC final in Southampton. Unfortunately, the Mumbai batsman could not make a big score. His solid technique is sure to give confidence to Indian fans ahead of big test series. Which is also the beginning of the journey of the second cycle of the world test championship.

However, Rohit seems to have an added responsibility because of Subhuman Gill’s injury. Who was likely to be his opening partner ahead of the series. Reports predict that Subhuman Gill is in danger of missing the entire test series tour against England. There is no official statement given by BCCI on Gill fitness.

If the reports are stated to be true Mayank Aggarwal will get a nod ahead of KL Rahul, to open with Rohit Sharma in the first test at Trent Bridge in Nottingham. Apart from having KL Rahul in the squad, there is also a Bengal cricketer Abhimanyu Easwaran. He is a reserve player who can be added to the squad.
