Why WWE Should End Drew McIntyre vs Damian Priest Rivalry at Saturday Night’s Main Event
On May 24, WWE is holding Saturday Night’s Main Event at the Yeungling Center in Tampa, where Drew McIntyre will face Damian Priest in a steel cage match. These two superstars have been fighting for a long time, and now it’s the right time to end this long-running rivalry.
Damian Priest cashed in his Money in the Bank contract at WrestleMania 40 and took the title from Drew just after he won it. Since then, things between them have kept getting worse. At Royal Rumble and Elimination Chamber 2025, Priest eliminated Drew and crushed his title hopes. Drew did win the Sin City Street Fight at WrestleMania 41, and it looked like the feud was over, but it wasn’t.
At Backlash 2025, during a United States Championship fatal four-way match, Priest again caused Drew to lose. Now, they are going head-to-head in a steel cage match, and this could be the final chapter. Here’s why WWE should end their rivalry at this event:
3. Two Big Matches in One Month Can Lower Fan Interest
This is their second big match in just one month. If WWE wants to give this rivalry a clear and strong ending, now is the perfect time. Repeating matches too often can make the storyline feel boring, and fans may lose interest.
WWE should give Drew a new and exciting storyline, while Priest could move on to face someone like Shinsuke Nakamura or Solo Sikoa.
2. Weak Chemistry on the Mic
In the ring, both Drew and Priest perform well. But during promos or backstage segments, their chemistry hasn’t been that strong. For example, Drew had much better moments on the mic during his feud with CM Punk, which even won the “Best Feud” award last year.
In this rivalry, only the matches have been memorable, not the talking parts.
1. Drew McIntyre Deserves a Title Chance
Fans have been asking for Drew to get another title run. Since WrestleMania 40, he hasn’t held any championship.
There were talks that Drew might get a big push in 2025. If he beats Priest clearly in this steel cage match, it could be the first step toward a new title opportunity.
On a recent SmackDown episode, he faced off with Jacob Fatu. This could mean Drew is aiming for the U.S. title next. He might be starting a new mission, defeating each member of The Bloodline, starting with Fatu.
