The most glaring upset at the Dubai Tennis Championships 2025 was the ouster of Daniil Medvedev on Thursday. The Russian was shown the door by Tallon Griekspoor who posted the most significant win of his career.
Medvedev entered the tournament as the top-seeded player. However, 28-year-old Griekspoor toppled the world number 6 in a dramatic 2-6, 7-6 (7), 7-5 win. The Dutchman saved four match points in the second set before closing out the match.This even left the Russian smashing his racket in frustration.
Alex de Minaur
Alex de Minaur suffered a significant upset going down to 2014 US Open winner Marin Cilic in three sets.
The Australian second seed lost 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 in two hours 17 minutes to the big-hitting Croatian.The Aussie got off to a slow start and dropped the first set before regaining his composure to draw level in the second.
Andrey Rublev
Another stunning upset at the Dubai Championships 2025 was the exit of tennis star Andrey Rublev. The Russian succumbed to qualifier Quentin Halys in an intense first-round match, losing 3-6, 6-4, 7-6.
Rublev entered the tournament on the back of the Qatar Open title victory. His shocking early exit was a precursor to many such upsets in the tournament.

Ugo Humbert
Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor pulled off yet another upset when he defeated defending champion Ugo Humbert in Round 2. The Frenchman who was seeded number five went down to Griekspoor 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 at the Aviation Club Tennis Centre.

Semi-final fixtures: February 28
Griekspoor will face fourth-seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas for a shot at the title. Tsitsipas beat Matteo Berrettini 7-6 (5), 1-6, 6-4 to make it to the semis.
Felix Auger-Aliassime defeated 2014 U.S. Open champion Marin Cilic 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 to set up a semifinal clash against qualifier Quentin Halys, who eliminated Luca Nardi 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (5).
The final match will be played on March 1.
