ENG vs WI: England To Bowl First Against West Indies

4 Min Read

Both England and the West Indies are coming into the match on the back of a win against Nepal and Scotland, respectively

England will take on West Indies in what is expected to be a mouth-watering clash at the Wankhede Stadium. The two sides have kicked off their campaign with wins against Nepal and Scotland, respectively, and would look to continue the momentum that they have on their side by winning the upcoming game as well.

If we talk about England and West Indies individually, England got out of jail in a nervy contest against Nepal courtesy of some good bowling from Sam Curran in the last ovee where the fast bowling all-rounder defended 10 runs to get England off the mark in the first game itself.

West Indies, on the other hand, had a relatively easy outing against Scotland, barring the first six overs led by Shimron Hetmyer’s half-century and a hat-trick from Romario Shepherd.

ENG vs WI: Captain’s Speak

England’s captain Harry Brook, after winning the toss and choosing to bat first, said that, going by the record that the Wankhede Stadium possesses in T20 cricket, which is stacked in favour of the chasing team, they have arrived at this decision.

Brook also added that England will have to stick to their plans and execute them in order to come on the right side of the result.

Brook’s counterpart, Shai Hope, said that West Indies would have batted first as well if they had won the toss, but now that they are batting first, they will have to bring their A game to the fore.

ENG vs WI: The Combination

Both teams have made changes to their playing XI for this particular match.

England: Philip Salt, Jos Buttler (wk), Jacob Bethell, Tom Banton, Harry Brook (c), Sam Curran, Will Jacks, Liam Dawson, Jamie Overton, Jofra Archer, Adil Rashid

West Indies: Brandon King, Shai Hope (wk/c), Shimron Hetmyer, Rovman Powell, Sherfane Rutherford, Roston Chase, Romario Shepherd, Jason Holder, Akeal Hosein, Gudakesh Motie, Shamar Joseph

ENG vs WI: How Will The Pitch At The Wankhede Stadium Behave

The surface for the game in question is expected to be good for batting, with it having good bounce and carry, which can be used by the batters to their advantage by hitting through the line. Having said that, the pacers will also get some assistance from the pitch, given that they bowl in the right areas and make things difficult for the opposition.

As far as the score that the West Indies team, which is batting, should look to post on the board, it happens to be 200-210, as anything less than that will be hard to defend.
