Euro 2025: England’s triumphant Lionesses were cheered on by thousands of thrilled fans in London on Tuesday during a joyful open-top bus parade to celebrate their dramatic Euro 2025 win. Sarina Wiegman’s squad held on to their European title by beating world champions Spain in a nail-biting penalty shootout in Basel, Switzerland, on Sunday, sparking celebrations across the country.

After flying back on Monday, the team headed straight to 10 Downing Street, where they were welcomed by Prime Minister Keir Starmer for a special reception.
But Tuesday was all about the fans, who turned out in huge numbers to celebrate the Lionesses’ amazing journey in Switzerland, a campaign full of determination and surprises.
Two red buses, proudly displaying the words “European Champions,” began their slow drive down The Mall, the famous road leading to Buckingham Palace, under cloudy skies just after midday.
Captain Leah Williamson and coach Sarina Wiegman lead emotional celebrations
Captain Leah Williamson held the trophy high in the air, and the crowd erupted with cheers and waved their flags with pride.
As the bus made its way along the flag-lined route, the noise grew louder, led by the sounds of a military band. The massive crowd then followed the bus toward the palace, gathering to celebrate with the team. Giant screens nearby replayed highlights from the tournament.
‘Still we rise’
An emotional Leah Williamson was the first to speak from the stage outside Buckingham Palace, admitting she had been crying during the parade down The Mall.
“There’s lots of ways to win a football match, and we repeatedly did it the hard way,” she said. “But I think that you can see how much we care about playing for England, how much we love it.”
“(Victory in) 2022 was a fairytale, but this feels really hard-earned, and we’re very proud of ourselves.”
She talked about how the team had pushed through tough moments, including a loss to France in their opening game: “Nasty things to deal with, and still we rise.”
She added: “Everything we do, obviously we do it for us and our team, but we do it for the country, and we do it for the young girls.”
“This job never existed 30 or 40 years ago, and we’re making history every single step. Thank you so much, thank you so much for being with us. Stay with us, this story’s not done yet.”
Wiegman also addressed the roaring crowd, praising her players for stepping up when it mattered most and even joined Nigerian singer Burna Boy for a dance on stage.
“I had hoped for a little less chaos but they didn’t keep their promise to finish things quicker,” she joked.
“But as we always have a plan, and we try to execute that, and the players on the pitch, and we just kept having hope all the time, and belief, and they just showed up when it was really necessary and urgent.”
England’s journey from early setbacks to ultimate glory inspires a nation
This win in Switzerland was especially sweet, as it came two years after a heartbreaking loss to Spain in the World Cup final.
On Monday, the team was welcomed to Number 10 by Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner and Sports Minister Stephanie Peacock, since Prime Minister Starmer was in Scotland meeting with US President Donald Trump.
Rayner praised the Lionesses, calling them a “shining example of talent and excitement for women’s football.”
