Esports: Global Esports team removes female Valorant player

3 Min Read

One of the few organisations from India, Global Esports, fields a full female Valorant roster under the name Global Esports Phoenix to compete in the Valorant Champions Tour (VCT) 2023 Game Changers APAC (Asia Pacific), a grassroots women’s competitive circuit. After battling through three difficult open qualifiers, the team was successful enough to qualify for the regional finals known as VCT 2023 Game Changers APAC Elite.

Unexpectedly, three days after the team was able to qualify, Abisha “Baila” Joseph, one of their key players who had been with the team from the beginning, was fired. The CEO of Global Esports, Rushindra Sinha, revealed in a personal public statement that Baila’s dismissal from the team was due to her being found guilty of Account Sharing for a second time.

Account Sharing is illegal, and users must absolutely avoid doing it, according to Riot Games’ Terms of Service (ToS). Regular Valorant players may experience temporary or permanent account bans as a result of practices such as account trading, elo (Rank) boosting, the use of hacks or cheats, and various frauds.

Since professional players’ main accounts are intimately tied to their careers, they must adhere to these restrictions with even more strictness.

It appears that Baila was convicted of sharing her primary Valorant account not once, but twice. She received a warning for the first offence in April 2023, barely one month after joining Global Esports Phoenix, and she was kicked off the squad for the second offence in July 2023.

There has been no response from her end, but Rushindra did explain the reason for the departure and said that Baila is aware of her error and is making efforts to ensure that she doesn’t violate Riot’s Terms of Service again.

By taking the final position on the regional scoreboard, Global Esports Phoenix has earned a spot in the VCT 2023 Game Changers APAC Elite. The team has plenty of time to recruit a successor and be ready because the event is due to start sometime in October 2023.
