The 2025 European Rowing Championships is scheduled to take place from 29 May to 1 June in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.
A total of 517 athletes from 32 nations set to clash oars in the first major international regatta of the season.
The European Rowing Championships serves as the first major meet since Paris Olympics 2024 and mark the start of a new cycle leading up to the next Olympic and Paralympic Games in LA 2028..
There will also be a new progression system in place this year: no more repechages, it’s all about direct qualification or bust.
The European Rowing Championships is an international rowing regatta organised by FISA (the International Rowing Federation) for European rowing nations. Israel, though not a member of the European federation, is treated as a European nation for competition purposes.
The championships date back to 1893. Over time, the competition grew in status and as it was not restricted to European countries, became regarded as the quasi-world championships. The World Rowing Championships were commenced in 1962 and the last European Championships were held in 1973 as from 1974, the World Championships became an annual event. The European Championships were re-introduced in 2007 but with a narrower focus on Europe.
