The European Running Championships 2025 which was held in Leuven, Belgium concluded on Sunday (13 April).
The inaugural edition threw up several surprising results. The event began with half-marathons in which Jimmy Gressier won the men’s race clocking 59:45 to win by 83 seconds.
Belgium’s Chloe Herbiet and Juliette Thomas walked away with gold and silver, respectively at the European Running Championships.
On Sunday, Yann Schrub of France added another gold to his country’s medal haul in the men’s 10km.
In the women’s race, Italy’s Olympic 10,000m silver medallist Nadia Battocletti won the gold medal clocking 31:10.
Aouani won gold for Italy by claiming a surprise marathon title – on a course starting in Brussels and finishing in Leuven – in 2:09:05. Members of the Israeli team, Gashau Ayale, finished second, Maru Teferi, finished third, and Haimro Alame, finished fourth.
Ouhaddou became the first Spanish European women’s marathon champion. Despite suffering a heavy fall at a water stop, the 31-year-old recovered to win in 2:27:14 with teammate Majida Maayouf taking silver.
The Israeli track team won the men’s team gold medal in the marathon event at the European Running Championships 2025.
