F1: Canadian GP: Verstappen wins his 6th race of the season

Max Verstappen won his sixth race of the season as he gains a substantial lead of 69 points over Red Bull teammate, Sergio Perez. Fernando Alonso from Aston Martin finished second and reduced the gap between Aston Martin and Mercedes from 18 points before the start of the race to 13 points. Lewis Hamilton from Mercedes finished third to register back-to-back podium finishes. In this article, we will take a look at the team/constructors’ standings and drivers’ standings after the Canadian Grand Prix.

Alonso closes in on Perez for the second spot

Sergio Perez had an 18-point lead over Fernando Alonso before the start of the Canadian GP.  Now the lead between the two has been reduced to just nine points. Alonso finished second and got 18 points while Perez finished sixth. Perez got nine points from the race as he had the fastest lap on the 70th lap, the last lap of the race.

With 14 races remaining in the season, Lewis Hamilton will fancy his chances of finishing in the top three. The seven-time champion is just 24 points behind second-placed Perez and 15 points behind third-placed Alonso.

Aston Martin closes in on Mercedes

Aston Martin has reduced the 18-point lead before the start of the Canadian GP to just 13 points thanks to a second finish by Alonso. Despite Hamilton finishing just behind third, Mercedes has allowed Aston Martin to close in on the second spot. Hamilton’s partner George Russell did not score any points which allowed Aston Martin to close in despite Lance Stroll finishing 9th.
