Captains at the club have already agreed to huge pay cuts. The club is working with other players to do the same.

Barcelona Career

Pjanic joined the club last season in a swap deal with Juventus. The deal saw Pjanic join Barcelona and Arthur Melo go the other way to Juventus. Barcelona had always admired Pjanic. He was touted as a replacement for the club legend Xavi Hernandez. However, Pjanic never settled in the side. Ronald Koeman never favored the midfielder.

Pjanic, one of the highest-earning players at the club was looking to move out of the club in the window. He had suitors from Serie-A. However, the player could not complete his move out, due to his huge wages.

The player’s agent was actively looking for a potential destination even after the deadline day. Consequently, reports stated that there is interest in the player from Russia and Turkey.

The transfer window closed on August the 31st. However, the window is still open in Russia and Turkey.

“FC Barcelona has loaned out Pjanic to Besiktas until June 2022”, read the official statement from the club. The midfielder’s contract with Barcelona expires in 2024.

He joins Besiktas on loan until next June.

The player has agreed to take a 60% pay cut for this season and will earn 3 million euros net. Besiktas will pay 2.7 million euros as wages. Meanwhile, Barcelona will cover the remaining fees.

Pjanic is currently on international duty with the Bosnian national team. He helped his side to a 1-1 draw against France in the World Cup qualifiers match. Bosnia and Herzegovina are yet to win in the World Cup qualifiers.
