FC Barcelona has officially confirmed that the game against Sevilla has been postponed. The High Council for Sports ( CSD ) has also postponed the game between Villareal and Alaves.
The government body granted the request La Liga made and the game in Seville on 11th September will be played at a later date. The council has judged in favor of La Liga’s request to postpone two La Liga fixtures.
La Liga made the request at CSD after the Spanish Football Federation’s Competition Committee reject the league body’s wish. La Liga previously requested the Committee to postpone the games between Sevilla and Barcelona, and Villareal and Alaves.
On 29 August, La Liga released a press statement announcing that they have made a request to the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) to postpone the two games from week’s list of fixtures as well as to modify kick-off times of other fixtures.
La Liga appealed at the Court of Arbitration for Sport against FIFA’s decision to prolong the South American qualifiers late into the week. However, the court rejected La Liga’s appeal. Meanwhile, the players will return to the club on Friday after playing three international matches during the break. However, many teams play league games on Saturday and Sunday. La Liga wanted to postpone the games as the players from South America won’t be available for the league games.
FC Barcelona will play their next game against Bayern Munich at home in the UEFA Champions League group stage. Meanwhile, Sevilla will play RB Leipzig on Tuesday in the European competition.
