FC Barcelona have already wrapped up the La Liga title, but one major milestone will now stay out of reach. Even if Hansi Flick’s side win their final two league matches, they can only finish on 97 points, meaning the club’s famous 100 point record will remain untouched.

That historic total was set during the 2012/13 season, when Barcelona produced one of the greatest league campaigns in Spanish football history.

For a while, it looked like this current team could at least push the record close. Barcelona spent most of the season collecting wins consistently and building a comfortable lead at the top of the table. But a few dropped results along the way eventually made the difference.

One of the biggest setbacks came in the defeat against Alaves. It was a result that surprised many fans at the time, especially considering the form Barcelona had been in. Looking back now, those lost points proved costly in the race toward the 100 point mark.

The title is secured by FC Barcelona

Even though they will fall short of the record, it does not change the fact that FC Barcelona have still had an excellent season under Flick. Winning La Liga in his first year at the club was already a huge achievement, particularly with the pressure that comes with managing Barcelona.

The team looked sharper and more organized throughout the campaign, and several players produced some of their best football in years. FC Barcelona were not perfect every week, but they consistently found ways to stay ahead of the rest of the league.

The comparison with the 2012/13 side was always going to be difficult. That team reached 100 points while dominating Spanish football with incredible consistency across the entire season. Very few teams in Europe have managed to hit that number since.

This current squad had moments where they looked capable of making history as well. During certain stretches of the season, Barcelona barely dropped points and controlled games with confidence. But long league campaigns always come with setbacks, and the loss to Alaves ended up becoming one of the defining moments in the race toward the record. Now, with only two matches left, the maximum total possible is 97 points.

Still, most FC Barcelona fans will probably accept that trade without much frustration. Records are important, but lifting the league trophy matters far more, and Flick has already delivered that in his first season in charge.
