Sarah Taylor has added another historic chapter to her cricket journey after being named fielding coach for the England men’s cricket team during their upcoming Test series against the New Zealand national cricket team. With the appointment, Taylor becomes the first woman to take up a coaching role with England’s senior men’s side.
Regarded as one of the finest wicketkeepers women’s cricket has ever produced, the former England star will join the squad on a short-term assignment as part of the team’s preparations for the New Zealand Tests. Since stepping away from international cricket, the 37-year-old has steadily built an impressive coaching résumé across different levels of the English game.
1st Woman to join Men’s team as a Coach
Before this latest role, Taylor worked with the England Lions setup alongside former England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff. She has also gained coaching experience with Sussex’s men’s team and franchise side Manchester Originals in The Hundred competition.
Her appointment is being seen as a landmark moment for English cricket, underlining the increasing influence and acceptance of female coaches in elite men’s sport.
Speaking about Taylor’s inclusion in the setup, Rob Key had glowing praise for her work and reputation within the coaching circuit.“She’s one of the best in the business at what she does. Everyone who has worked with her speaks incredibly highly of her,” Key said while discussing Taylor’s impact and coaching ability.
Sarah Taylor’s International Career
Taylor’s achievements as a player remain unmatched in many ways. During a glittering international career with England, she featured in 226 matches across formats and earned global recognition for her sharp wicketkeeping and dependable batting performances.
Her move into England’s senior men’s coaching group is also being viewed as another positive step towards broader inclusivity in top-level cricket. Having already left a lasting legacy as a player, Taylor is now breaking fresh ground in the coaching world as well.
As England gear up for the New Zealand series, attention will now turn to the influence Taylor can bring to the side’s fielding standards and overall preparation.
