FIBA Asia Cup 2025: Confirmed Groups, Japan To Face Syria, Iran, Guam

The FIBA Asia Cup 2025 is one of the highly anticipated basketball events of the year in the continent and fields have begun to shape up.

This will be the 31st edition of the  the continental basketball championship in Asia which is organised by FIBA Asia.

Saudi Arabia will the host for second time after staging the 1997 edition.  It will take place in Jeddah between 5 and 17 August 2025.

Clearing yet another step, a draw was held on Tuesday in which groups were confirmed for the FIBA Asia Cup 2025.

FIBA Asia Cup 2025: Groups

The 16 teams are divided into four groups of four teams each. They are as follows:

Group A: Qatar, Australia, Korea, Lebanon

Group B: Guam, Japan, Syria, Iran

Group C: China, Jordan, India, Saudi Arabia

Group D: Chinese Taipei, New Zealand, Iraq, Philippines

Australia are the defending champions after beating Lebanon in the 2022 final.

FIBA Asia Cup 2025: How does it work

During the Group Phase, the teams will play against each other in a single-round robin format. The first-placed teams of each group will qualify directly to the Quarter-Finals. The second- and third-placed teams in each group will play in a Qualification to Quarter-Finals round.

The Final Phase of the competition will proceed from the Quarter-Finals onwards with a knockout format in place.

Australia, the reigning two-time champions, are yet to lose a game in the Asia Cup and will be looking to maintain their perfect record. 2022 Finalists Lebanon came close to winning it all and will be aiming for their first-ever Asia Cup title. China will try to extend their lead as all-time leader in Asia Cup titles, having already won 16 in the past.

Quarter-Finals: August 13-14

Semi-Finals: August 16

Third-Place: August 17

Final: 17
