FIBA U16 EuroBasket 2025: Georgia’s Tbilisi Announced As New Host

FIBA U16 EuroBasket 2025 is scheduled to take place in Tbilisi, Georgia, FIBA Europe has announced. 

The event takes place from August 8-16, 2025.

The basketball competition was initially scheduled to take place in Istanbul, Türkiye. It has now been relocated, with the Georgian Basketball Federation approved as the new host. 

The FIBA U16 EuroBasket 2025 will serve as the qualifier for the FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup 2026 in Türkiye, with the five top-ranked teams earning the spot, along with host nation Türkiye, who have a direct qualification.

The FIBA U16 EuroBasket is the new name for the FIBA U16 European Championship, originally known as the FIBA European Championship for Cadets. It’s a men’s youth basketball competition that was inaugurated with the 1971 edition. Through the 2003 edition, it was held every second year, but since the 2004 edition onward, it is held every year. 

The tournament determines qualification for the FIBA Under-17 World Cup in odd years, for the FIBA Europe region. 

France are the defending champions. 

Yugoslavia are the most successful nations with nine gold medals. They are followed by Spain who have six golds in their kitty. Reigning champions France have four golds to sit third in the standings.
