The FIFA Club World Cup is under way in the United States in a revamped format which had a place for 32 teams to fight out for the global showpiece.
The is is the 21st edition and the first of the expanded FIFA Club World Cup. The final will be held on July 13.
FIFA announced a historic USD 1 billion total payout to the 32 participating clubs, with tournament champions set to earn up to USD 125 million.
Following extensive consultations with key stakeholders, the FIFA Council planned out a distribution model that marks the largest financial commitment in club football history for a single tournament.
In addition to direct prize money, FIFA confirmed a landmark investment programme targeting an additional USD 250 million to be distributed across global club football to strengthen the sport’s ecosystem and reduce the disparity between clubs and regions.
The tournament carries a total prize money of USD 1 billion, comprising a sporting performance pillar of USD 475 million and a participation pillar of USD 525 million.
