According to the schedule for the FIFA World Cup, Ecuador will be competing against Qatar in their opening match in ‘Group A’ on the first day (20 November 2022). The team is classified in ‘Group A’ alongside Qatar, Senegal and Netherlands.

The Ecuador national football team is often known as, “La Tri” (The Tri), and “La Tricolor” (The Tricolors). And the team generally represents Ecuador in men’s international football and is said to be controlled by the Ecuadorian Football Federation (FEF). However, the team joined FIFA in the year of 1926, and they joined CONMEBOL after almost a year. The team is currently led by their head coach, Gustavo Alfaro.


According to reports, the team was unsuccessful in making a tournament debut until the year of 2002. The team, however, successfully managed to reach the Round of 16 during the exciting World Cup campaign of 2006. After their innumerable performance in the World Cup, the team was expected to retain their form at the 2007 Copa América. Unfortunately, they were eliminated in the group stage. However, the Ecuador Men’s National Football team is said to play most of their home matches at the Estadio Olímpico Atahualpa, located in Quito.
